THE 10 DEADLIEST TORNADOES ON RECORD
Mach 18 1925 Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana suffered the worst loss in the history of the United States. There were 685 people killed and 2,027 injured. That tornado ripped 300 miles across the three states.
The Natchez tornado killed 317 people. On May 8 1940 it also injured 109 people. It traveled along the Mississippi River, through Louisiana and Mississippi.
The city of St Louis was hit on May 27 1896, the winds were at their height of 260 mph, it injured over a 1000 people and killed 255.Missouri, and Illinois were both effected in the tornado.
Again northeastern Mississippi was hit on April 5 1936 in Tupelo killing 216 people and injured 700 people.
Out of the ordinary Gainsville Georgia was hit the day after the Tupelo tornado killing 203 people and injured 1600. It destroyed 750 houses in a four block area in that northern Georgia town.
The storm in Oklahoma had also hit Texas and after hitting Oklahoma it went on to Kansas on April 9 1947. The tornado wich killed 181 people and injured 970. The tornado was a mile wide.
May 22 2011 a tornado hit Joplin Missouri killing 158 people and injured over a 1000 and it was on the ground for 22 miles. GO TO RESOURCES
